The best artisanal fair trade chocolate in Belgium? It's up to you to find out!

Pierre Marcolini is considered one of the best chocolatiers in the world, but there is, unfortunately, no Marcolini boutique in Schaerbeek ... luckily we have a chocolatier with equally remarkable know-how: Xocolate. Opened in 2018, this little chocolate maker is definitely worth a visit! It all starts with the first warm contact with Xavier, who worked at Oxfam Solidariteit before starting with his atelier using 100% organic and fair trade chocolate made from Haitian cocoa beans paid double the world market price. With these beans, he obtains a 72% chocolate which is simply divine. Next comes the research for a praline with subtle variations using as little sugar as possible, and then, at last, the creative experimental aesthetical research. You will find at each visit the classics of the house but also new creations.

But why open a shop like this in Schaerbeek? It is the result of pure luck (for us), a store to be renovated completely found via-via; but also the desire for proximity, to be able to transmit the passion for fair trade chocolate and not to merely create another chocolate business for tourists.

During the first 2 months of the COVID-19 confinement, Xavier designed pralines for the nursing staff by receiving donations from his clients to be able to keep up with the funding!

Are you passionate about artisan chocolate? Xavier gives the possibility of booking his workshop for a culinary journey of 2 to 3 hours for a maximum of 8 adults.
